An Introduction to a Circular Economy

IECA Australasia would like to invite you to a series of webinars exploring ESC, sustainability and the circular economy. The series will begin on Thursday 23rd July and will run every week for approximately 4 weeks. We have a great line up of speakers and topics, please see details below. You will need to register for each webinar separately.

Sustainability and the Circular Economy are current buzz words in all industries. At the last 2 IECA Aust. conferences there was discussion around the use of ESC products and what happens to them on the completion of a project. If you are in the game of ESC it can be fairly safely assumed, you have the environment at heart. So, creating enormous amounts of land fill does not sit comfortably with you. This online workshop series highlights how the ESC industry is addressing this issue.

We currently have 4 sessions planned:

Session 2: An Introduction to a Circular Economy

Living systems have been around for a few billion years and will be around for a lot longer. The natural world needs no waste dump or landfill site, instead material flows where one species waste is another’s food. Energy is provided by the sun, things grow and die and the nutrients are returned to the soil. This is the inspiration for a circular economy. As humans we have adopted a linear approach where we take, make, and then dispose. In this presentation we will look into how our waste can build capital rather than reduce it, using examples from the ESC industry, in essence how do we take what we currently have and move towards a true circular economy?

Meet the presenter: Shonelle Gleeson-Willey, Moss Environmental and IECA Aust Director.

Shonelle is the founding director of Moss Environmental, a consulting company specialising in construction, mining and CLM. With over 15 years in the environmental industry as both a consultant, environmental manager and scientist Shonelle has seen her fair share of waste when it comes to products used for environmental management ‘I always asked myself, are we doing more harm than good with all the waste that is being sent to landfill’. Shonelle is an advocate for sustainability and a circular economy, having partnered with the University of New England to deliver industry training on food waste and our regions progress towards a circular economy. Shonelle is an Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional and has graduated from the Ellen Macarthur Foundation, Circular Economy Program.
