LIMITED PLACES- BOOK EARLY

IECA Australasia in collaboration with Downer NZ would like to invite you to join us on this once in a lifetime experience. We will have the opportunity to hear from the Projects Environmental Manager regarding erosion control on this very sensitive site, including development of erosion and sediment controls in steep catchments, unconventional solutions to erosion and sediment control problems, weather related challenges, working within a water reservoir catchment and going above and beyond the as built process for devices. Book early as we have limited places.

The Turitea wind farm is owned by Mercury NZ Limited and is located in the Tararua Ranges above Palmerston North, NZ. The site extends southwards from the Pahiatua-Aokautere Road, on both sides of the Turitea Reserve.

This wind farm, currently under construction, will be New Zealand's largest, with a total capacity of 222MW (how much electricity it is able to generate) from mid next year. The project will cost approx. $465M to build.

Sixty wind turbine generators will be located on the ridgelines of the Tararua Ranges in accordance with consents, and to most effectively capture the wind power. Each Vestas V112 turbine measures 125m from base to rotor tip.

The Turitea wind farm construction includes a new 12km long transmission line connecting the wind farm, via two on-site substations, into the National Grid at Transpower’s Linton substation.

The transmission line operates at 220kV. It is constructed using monopoles to support the conductors over farmland, and traditional pylon towers in the Turitea Reserve.

The Linton substation works include installation of a new bay, gantry, primary and secondary protection, revenue metering and communications networks.

This opportunity is open to IECA members and non-members.

IECA Australasia encourages Australian delegates to attend this study tour and witness first-hand the challenges this project presents and the innovative way that the project team has embraced environmental management.

Places are strictly limited to maximum of 20. We recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.
